Cosmetic Dentistry FAQs

What Is a Cosmetic Dentist?

A cosmetic dentist is any dentist who has had extra training to perform cosmetic procedures, such as bonding on front teeth, veneers, or crowns.

What Is Cosmetic Dentistry?

As you know, teeth aren't just white, yellow, or brown. They are 50 shades of white! Cosmetic dentistry is the art of making beautiful smiles that are healthy and natural looking.

What Is Cosmetic Dental Treatment?

There are a variety of cosmetic dental treatments from orthodontics to straighten teeth and correct bite, whitening to improve color, fillings to repair decay or close in spaces/shape teeth, veneers and crowns which can do all of the above!

How Much Cosmetic Dentistry Cost?

Depending on your desired result, cosmetic dentistry can vary from inexpensive (whitening) to spending a lot more for procedures such as veneers and crowns.

Why Cosmetic Dentistry?

The first thing a person sees about you is usually your smile and there are oftentimes quick and easy fixes to improve and enhance your smile with little to no pain. Cosmetic dentistry is fun and patients love the results.

How Much Veneers Cost?

This is a tricky question and largely depends on the desired result. Just like anything in life, you can really spend as little or as much as you want. A good rule of thumb is that a single veneer can range from $1,200-$1,600/tooth. I have seen them for as little as $600/tooth (which is scary) and as much as $5,000/tooth (which is scarier!).

How Long Veneers Last?

Veneers can be very stable and last a long time. Of course it depends on the starting structure of the patient. If the patients mouth is in tip-top shape, then they can last a long time. If we are trying to make a palace out of a shack, then it might be a lot more difficult. Our goal is for our veneers to last 15-20 years, however.

How Many Veneers Do I Need?

This is a great question. For just one arch, sometimes patients only need their two front teeth, sometimes only their front 4. Oftentimes we will do 8 or 10. Either way, we always do an even number so the two sides look the same and we rarely do only 6 (canine to canine). Ti all depends on the patients smile line and tooth display and what their end goal is.

How Many Veneers For Full Mouth?

The most we usually do is 10 veneers on top and 10 veneers on bottom. So 20 total. In rare occasions, we will do 12 and 12. Typically, patients will have 14 teeth on top and 14 on bottom when their wisdom teeth are removed, but the 2nd molars are rarely veneered.

Who Does Veneers Dentist Or Orthodontist?

Orthodontists only do braces to straighten teeth. Dentists are the ones who do the veneers. I often say, "who wants straight, yellow teeth?". So sometimes you can skip ortho and get your dream smile without braces!

What is the difference between a crown and a veneer?

A crown covers your entire tooth whereas a veneer only covers the outside portion of the tooth (what you see). Other than that, there really is no difference. They have the same esthetics and properties so nothing is lost from a beauty perspective. Crowns are often indicated when we need to correct bite or teeth that are crowded (overlapped) or have significant spacing (gaps). Crowns allow for much more freedom to make more drastic changes.

What is bonding?

Bonding is a procedure done on front teeth to correct minor gaps or other undeisred tooth shapes. It is simple and pain free and oftentimes very affordable. It is done in one visit without any anesthetic (shots). It allows us to get better size and shape of a tooth or teeth.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

Implants last a lifetime. Dentures can only last upwards to about a decade; so if you need a tooth to last for the rest of your life, an implant is the best investment you can make. By increasing chewing surfaces in your mouth, you’ll prolong the life of the surrounding teeth by lessening the chewing load. Plus, your smile will be full and you can speak confidently.

What Are My Dental Implant Options?

If you’re missing a tooth, a dental implant is the best way to restore your smile! A single dental implant works best if you’re missing one or a few teeth. If you are missing more than a few teeth, All-on-X and All-on-4 treatments work great as the treatments have entire denture sets supported on only a few implants.

What Can A Single Dental Implant Do For Me?

Depending on where you are missing a tooth, a dental implant could change your life! Whether it is to comfort chewing, speak clearly, or smile more confidently, a dental implant can do a lot. When you lose a tooth, chewing loads shift to surrounding teeth, wearing down other teeth more quickly. An implant will help maintain your current teeth too as your chewing can shift back to normal.

How Does A Dental Implant Work?

A dental implant is a little different than receiving just a crown or filling. There are three parts of a dental implant: a titanium post that is secured into the jaw, an abutment, which attaches the post to the crown, and then the crown, which looks like a natural tooth and provides a strong chewing surface. Unlike dentures, implants are rather permanent, meaning you won’t be taking the post out.

Do Dental Implants Require Bone Grafting?

Due to periodontal disease or other circumstances where a jaw bone has deteriorated, there might not be enough bone to safely secure an implant post. Grafting bone mass, inserting it into the jaw, and then allowing it to heal will rebuild the jaw bone. Once the jaw bone has healed, implants posts can be inserted and the smile can be restored.

What Are Snap-In Dental Implants?

They’re easy to clean, eat with, talk with, and more. Your dentures will be custom-made to fit your smile and face. Restore your confidence.
